Sorry I don't have a model #, but it's basic kenmore model.  Washer stops, but will re-start when lid is opened & closed.  Is this the transmission?

likely a failing lid switch- try it with the switch bypassed and see if it still stops

Eureka!! It was the lid switch. It was working intermittently and replacing it fixed the problem! Thanks for your help.
