Ok, so this is the deal... I have an LG WM2277HW front load washer. It was giving me a "TE" error so i did tons of googling and figured out that the thermistor was the problem. I am not the most mechanically inclined -- but i figured i'd give it a try.

I got the whole thing apart on my own. Found the thermistor's wiring harness had broken -- so long story short i cut the wires, used a butt connector, and VIOLA!!! WORKS!!!

Now, i saw all kinds of people having problems getting the spring that holds the door gasket OFF. I did not. Was actually not difficult at all. Getting it back ON!!!!! TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY.

So this is the deal.... how the heck do you get the gasket back on and then get the wire around the drum and the spring mechanism in place?

This is what I did.. and i'm sure there has to be a better way.... I had the door open as I pushed the gasket onto the drum from inside the cavity... got it all the way around the drum and then opened the cabinet cover enough to get my hands in there... and tried to get the metal wire all the way around it in the groove, but how do you get it to stay in the groove???? i had one person hold the one side as i man-handled the spring side in. I got it MOSTLY there, but i think the bottom of the gasket popped out because its leaking a bit... and i can see at the bottom of the gasket where its not all the way seated...

But before I go doing this ALL over again, i need to know a couple things...

1 - is there an easier way of doing this?

2 - i read about this spring clamp tool... what do i get? one that squeezes the eye hooks from both sides together??? or one that separates the spring far enough to latch it?

3 - how do i ensure that the wire stays in the groove?

I need some simple help!!!

Well, how else do you get at the THERMISTOR???? I heard people being able to put the washer on its back and get at it... but mine is on a pedestal and i tried undoing the screws -- but apparantly best buy installers like to strip screws... so the pedestal wasn't going ANYWHERE.

Now, the pliers are one part of the question.. and i thank you for that. what about the rest. am i doing it right? do i really hold open the cabinet cover just a couple inches while i try and get my hands in there to somehow get the wire into the groove as i use the pliers to get the spring into position????? seriously... is there no easier way? am i just doing something wrong????

I'm not sure about how to get to it on the Washer..

Hey... no sweat because I fixed the thermistor on the dryer. I included what I was doing just as a matter of reference. It was actually easy -- the hard part -- and the part i'm stuck on... is...

THE GASKET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the Service Manual and it was great telling me how to get the whole machine apart.

Where i'm stuck is how to get the door gasket put back together so that the darn machine doesn't leak.

Again, the steps I used:

Others will correct me if I make a boo-boo , so here goes :: remove top, remove screw from filter area(bottom left on front) ,. pry out the plastic cover and remove screws you now see. remove spring from bellows at door opening(which you already have) . remove screws which hold front to cabinet(at the top) lean front panel forward a little to unhook wire connector from door switch. you now have a clear shot at putting the boot on the outer shell . (I hope) never actually changed one on an L.G. going from directions in manual. So far I have been putting springs on by holding one end of the spring in groove where it belongs , then with a pair of needle nose pliers I stretch the spring so retainer will go into groove - important to keep spring , etc. as close to its home as possible . If I have you confused as heck , I am sorry , but the secret is to take off the front. Some times putting bellows back on a LITTLE d/w soap will help - also for installing retainer - too much soap is worse than none.. rotsa ruck!!!

you only need to remove the door boot from the front panel not the tub

put the boot on the tub first then put the front panel back on

ok so i got you up to the unhooking of the wiring harness. i did that, and now the gasket "boot" was attached to the drum and to the front door. i didn't see how to get it off the door side, so i unhooked the spring retainer and undid it from the drum side. That's what i was having a very difficult time putting back on since the other side was still attached to the door.

Making progress here!!

So i just bought the pliers. that should help me put the retainer spring & wire back on. But my question is this:

How do i get the gasket away from the door side? If i can do that, i can put the retainer wire on securely -- then somehow attach it back to the door, and i think we have a winner!!!!!!!

How do i do that??????

^just stick a small flathead in at the bottom to pry out the retainer clamp.

i use needle nose pliers to put the outer clamp back on

Well, i didn't take any retainer clamp off... i didn't even see one. Where exactly is it? maybe that's my problem . . .

Again, I could get the gasket off the drum... but not the door. I'm still very confused as to how the gasket comes off the door... that would make sense and would allow me better access to getting this gasket back on the drum... but how do i get it off (and subsequently back ONTO) the door????

http://www. LGEservice.com may or may not be of help. When you open the door , you should feel a retainer holding the boot to the front panel (look closely). The only info I have shows a retainer, spring and all.

at 6 o'clock position there is the spring for the retainer. pry that sucker out of there

Check another post here : frigidaire affinity washer started by vMAC. If you don't have a retainer , the boot should pull off the door opening with ease. The other post has a pic. of where retainer is on front loads.

The retainer has a approx. 3" spring ( and hook ) at the 6 o'clock position under the groove on the gasket where it fits on the outter tub and the front door panel. Use the needle nose pliers as mentioned before. Make sure the gasket stays lined up and the retainer is firmly in it's groove. With experience it's still aggravating. The question is why are you changing the thermister. We have never had to change it. I assume this is not a washer dryer combo unit .

I have had the opportunity to replace boot gaskets on GE, LG, Kenmore, and now a Bosch front loader. All these models have had 2 spring retainer rings. I had some problems finding rings that seem to be buried in the Gasket. I did always seem to find both rings. My problem is always getting the rings back on by myself. Everytime I try to do it by myself, the gasket keeps coming off along with the spring ring. I'm always having to get help. Any suggestions?

First, seat the rubber boot into the groove of the door, it will stay there. Then put the wire clamp on three quarters of the way from the 10 Oclock position to the 6 Oclock position. Make sure the wire is properly in the groove. Then hold the 10 Oclock position of the wire with your right hand and the 6 Oclock position with your right knee and pull the spring apart with a hooked dental pick or similar type tool with your left hand and slip it into the rest of the door boot groove. It's so easy a caveman could do it but thats just my opinion.
