Will not spin, occasional slight movement but will not move tub. Looking at the parts breakdown, removed the brake assembly and noted is very slight wear on the brake stator, but all else appears normal. Cannot find any info on the transmission assembly, looks to be all one piece. Is the clutch for the spin located in the transmission assembly?? Wash and other cycles appear ok. Give me the W/P with coupling and exposed clutch anyday Any help greatly appreciated George geoalben@yahoo.com

Make sure belt is fine as well as pump spinning free and motor pivoting on it's plate freely. After that, raise top like you are going to remove the tub cover and set unit into spin. With the motor running, and the tub just sitting there not spinning reach in and see if you can rotate the inner basket almost like a roulette wheel. If you can, that means your brake is released and your belt, motor, pump, brake and bearings are all fine, your trans is shot. If you can not, that means your brake is still holding or you have an article of clothing stuck between the tubs. If the brake is holding, you will just need a thrust bearing kit which is listed below. http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=154&N=1042142

Thanks for the quick reply, as you can tell I have never gotten into a Maytag before Im appliance for base housing on Eielson AFB, have over 8000 appliances, but just got in Maytag for the first time in 2005. No tech data no nothing so was shooting blind on this one. got it back together and tub is solid cant move, turn on and the tub doesn't move, however can manually turn it in either direction, little stiff, but turns freely. If I read your reply correctly this means transmission correct? appreciate your help on this. George

Sounds like your brake is still holding which leads me to believe the part I have listed is your boy. If it was the trans, with the unit running, you would be able to reach in with one hand and spin the tub very freely like a roulette wheel. IF you can barley move it, your brake is on or there is an article of clothing stuck between the tubs.
