The washer's out-of-balance alert came on, but now even with an empty washer tub the alert is still on and the washer won't run.

I guess it's a bad sensor, but I can't find one on the parts listings. Any ideas?

thanks,
Chris

And the model number is 110 6914702 It's proably 20-25 years old. Sears still sells parts, but I don't see anything about an out of balance sensor in their listings.

Thanks,
Chris

This is what you're looking for. On the Sears site, it's item 129 in the "machine sub-assembly" drawing, Whirlpool part number 350780. What you'll probably find is that yours has rusted up, showing a permanent off-balance. Generally, we used to disconnect these, saved a lot of grief without causing any harm.

Many thanks for the reply.  I ended up just cleaning the contacts to get the machine running, and Mom promised to get a new machine. So after the second time I cleaned the contacts to get the machine running again I helped her get a new washing machine.  :-)
