I've had a Frigidaire GLTR1670AS0 front load washer for about 6yrs. The other day, during the spin cycle it started making an EXTREMELY loud clanking/banging noise. Today we tried another load to see what would happen. It seems to wash and tumble, but did not go into the spin cycle at all. It just tumbled one way and then the other. Please help.

Take off the back and remove the belt. Check motor for bad bearings and usually a bad tub bearing . Then wash your hands and go shopping.

I took off the back and took the belt off. the motor felt pretty smooth. the tub turned pretty good but I can definately hear a noise when it turns. I'm not sure it would stop the spin cycle from kicking in but who knows. I'm not sure how to check the tub bearings and take them out though.

Any up and down jiggle to the shaft or a rumbling noise when you spin it would mean bearing is bad. The whole tub assembly can be ordered from sears ( or ?). Cann't remember price.

Is it pretty tough to take the drum apart to look at the bearings?

Just an update. I took the whole thing apart just to know what's wrong. Two of the spider arms on the inner drum are broken. They are just snapped right at the base. What's up with that? The warrenty for the inner basket is 25 yrs. but are they going to fix it if I took it apart?

" but are they going to fix it if I took it apart?" the warranty is only on the part and not labor. plus you still should replace the rear tub. labor + rear tub = more than its worth

the WM0742 is similar ... some LG Service Manuals I bought our WM2688 NIB on eBay from an LG dealer.. $1200 + $100 shipping .. (was Rainbow Appliance, now maybe mydropoffstore ) we've had it just over a year.. no problems.. some parts at http://www.searspartsdirect.com/ and other places.. but with any appliance, find out who will service it in your area. some LG (and other brands) servicers are few and far between
