i think he is talking about a pump motor cooling fan? you need to disassemble your pump and look for debris

NCSU is correct. I was referring to the pump cooling fan. Strangely everything is working again. I'm still at a loss as to what's occuring. I observe two recurring problems. 1. Spin cycle does not always work. Sometimes it kicks in after re-running the wash cycle 2 or 3 (7 most recently) times. I replaced the motor in December 2008. When the spin cycle does not work, the water is never extracted. 2. Spin cycle works but does not extract water. This occurs rarely. The fan seems to be stuck when this happens. But just like last night, it just suddenly worked without me digging up for loose coins or gunk stuck in the pump. Should this fan more or less spin with relative ease when the washer is off? Could it be rust build-up? Is getting "stuck" a symptom of the real problem? By the way, I've had this washer since 1998. I've replaced the whole drum assembly, drive motor and shocks successfully - all thanks to fixitnow! Last edited on Mon May 4th, 2009 07:37 pm by fixandsave |

I think I would be replacing the pump , as long as you are sure it is getting 120 volts when it will not pump water.

If I replace the pump, do you think that will address the problem where sometimes the washer only hums and does not move during the fast spin cycle?

Only if the hummmmm is from the pump motor . With water in the tub , unit will not spin.
