I have a carrier 220v 12000 btu window a/c in the spare bedroom. It was running perfectly and now the compressor wont start since a guest mistakenly shut it off wrong.. what I mean by that is that instead of turning the knob to off, she mistakenly had it 180 degrees turned so if was between low and medium. So the fan was off but the compressor was short cycling for about 5 hours. I tried a supco pow-r-pak spp5 but it still short cycles. I fear the compressor is dead. Could the run cap be bad..Please help..thanks in advance

SHORT CYCLEING ? OR NOT STARTING ? i am not sure your discribeing your problem correctly .. short cycleing is when the compressor starts and runs then in a short time it stops or tripps the overload ...... not starting is just that , the compressor may get power but not start then trips the overload ........let us know witch one you have .

I'm sorry Cactus Bob.. I guess I was trying to use terminology that I didn't understand. The compressor buzzes for 3-5 seconds and the overload trips. Then after a minute or two, it repeats the same thing.....the compressor never starts..

SORRY . BUT , BAD COMPRESSOR . 100% system ran without fan , liquid flood into compressor , compressor locked up ......other parts can make it look like the same thing . but you know the history and the reason for failure . so why waste time and money . you have a better chance hitting the lottery than haveing a capacator going bad for no reason at the same time it got frozen .....it just does not happen
