I have a 6 year old Miele dishwasher G 658 SCVI Plus that indicates an intake/drain issue. I have inspected both intake and drain, including removal of the drain hose for inspection and not found any blockage. I have also checked the impeller in the tub and do not find any issue with the impeller, spins freely. When the dishwasher runs, water does come into the unit, and water drains during the drain cycle, but it appears to trigger the intake/drain alert when it completes the drain cycle.

Any suggestions or diagnostic routines I can call up? I have already had one technician at my house to inspect the dishwasher, and after taking it out and doing a full inspection, this problem continues to exist.

Thanks

Warren

The intake/drain light is the d/w's only method of communication, forgive it for not being more eloquent. Does the main wash motor come on? Most times the pump seal gets stuck and needs help to free itself. Miele makes a special tool for this but you can construct your own from a wire coat hanger. Bend it into a fork shape about 4" long with the tines about 3/4" apart, remove the sump cover and stick it into the the wash pump and give it a turn.

At the end of the initial rinse cycle, about 10-15 minutes in on a normal cycle, is when the system goes into the error state. I hear a slight "thunk" sound just about the same time. If there were a problem with the circulation pump, wouldn't I get the fault condition much sooner?

On rare cases, after resetting the dishwasher, it will complete a cycle, but it's getting less frequent in success.

When I initially took the dishwasher apart, there was some broken glass that I pulled out. Including the drain hose. So far I haven't found any more. The initial problem was a failure of the system to drain. I don't see this occurring much anymore, so possibly an additional piece of glass has locked up the circulation pump.

I'll give the circulation pump release a try and update with success/failure.

Warren

I tried making the tool for the pump seal, but I can't tell if I'm engaging the impeller or not. Is there much resistance on a normal rotation?

Can you hear the wash pump coming on? If not you probably have some broken glass fouling the impeller and it time for some major surgery.

The rinse and hold cycle appears to run without a problem. Wouldn't that make use of the wash pump?

$140 later for Miele service to come out, problem found and solved.  The air gap on the dishwasher was somewhat clogged, which he showed me when we shone a light down on the air gap.  Not enough to prevent draining, removing the cap and running the dishwasher would show water coming out the air gap top, but there was enough gunk to slow down the drainage and set the intake alarm.  Bypassing the air gap resolved the issue.

There is a means to get the error code, but the number of keypresses to get it was too many for me to recall.  Ideally, someone in the know can post this for future reference.
