why does the washer die just before you have to do abunch of loads to send the kids off to camp ? - here's the issue - yesterday the washer made some squeals, stopped, and smelt a bit of burning rubber. I turned it over , moved the centre pulley left and right - it moves with a slight tug every once ona while when turning right. No evidence of water underneath. Checked around the tub for stuck socks- nothing. Took off the agitator, took the 2 small screens off, bunch of crud underneath, cleaned that all out. The washer then was happy and did 5 loads, then stopped again. Will fill, but no agitation or other. Flipped it over, pulley turns ok. Maytag guys state the main bearing usually lasts 15-18 yrs, but haven't yet called them out....what would be my next step? thanks

Why are you turning this washer over? Just remove the front panel and tilt it back-- much easier on both you and the washer. Reach in around the top of the tub, feel all the way around and find that towel that's stuck between the inner basket and outer tub Then replace the belts because they're burnt.

nothing located around the inner tub - even tried a flashilight in there...Tried again to run a wash cycle....the tub fills, then nothing. the timer is not making the normal ticking sound, move the timer knob to rinse or spin, pull out, nothing happens...fun for a long weekend...

it's so nice when there's a schematic taped to the inside of the control panel ! I figured a way to bypass the lid switch - no luck. ..but there also is a check ? switch...bypassed that and the lid switch and hey ! it fires up...looks like the check switch is a normally closed switch so dunno why it's not working...any harm in bypassing these switches until I pick up the part ? will also just bypass the check switch to double check if the lid switch is working....and if all stays ok for a couple loads, a little beer will flow your way.... We, of course, can never recomend by-passing safety devices on any appliance. They are there for a reason. All we can say is decide for yourself if the hazard is worth the use of the washer...( we have to protect our a_ _.)
