My husband and I just purchased a brand new Whirlpool side-by-side fridge in Feb '08. Everything was going great until we noticed a constant drip coming from the water dispenser. We followed the 3 minute rule to get the air bubbles out, but that didn't help. I contacted Whirlpool and they sent out a service tech who took a look at our fridge and basically siad there was nothing he could do to fix it, and said we'd always have this insane problem. Apparently all of the new refrigerators come with a tube system instead of the tanks because it is more cost efficient for the distributor. He actually said they've gotten cheap. Because of this new system, if there is any air in the water in your home, the water dispenser will always have air in it, therefore causing the consistent drip, drip, dripping that we have (I have to keep a cup on the tray to prevent the water from spilling over). The service tech told me to call a plumber... This is ridiculous. Is there really nothing that we can do? I hate the idea of paying a plumber to come "fix" the air in our water and pay more than what we spent on the fridge. Who's to say one can even do that? Is there any part out there that can fix this problem? Please help!!!

Might try this.....that WP tech is correct, this dripping is a problem but this may stop it, worth a try???

once upon a time , I had a problem like this. While I was watching the air bubbles in the tube have fun and not get chased out , I unhooked the cooling tube inside the fridge section and had the lady hit the switch. May I add we had a 1 gal. pail to catch the water. We could visibly see that the air bubbles were out of the cooling tube and it seemed to stop the dripping. Worth a try as you wait to instal the one way valve.

hey kimber, i just pulled my hair out over this exact issue last week. wp tech support finally came clean and said replace the cheap coil- type resevoir with the good ole tank style , along with not one but 2 check valves, one at the bottom of the door like pegi's post said and one at the tank outlet. worked like a charm! also you should be able to get this under warranty. have that tech come back and call the techline from your home and get the part #s for this repair or if you want ,i can get them for you monday. let me know.

Yes, please please get me those part #s if you can! That would be fantastic! We've been given so many suggestions, such as a house water filter system. It seems only fair that WP take care of this since we did get a 10 year warranty.

Here you go!

1) 2305226- tank-style reservoir

2) 2314271- 1/4" check valve connector( for bottom of door)

3) 8201815- 5/16" check valve connector( for outlet side of reservoir)

I would give this info to the service tech and have him order and replace these parts under warranty. Let us know if we can help you further! :cheers:
