I am having a freezing problem with this unit. Purchased in 2002. Could this be a problem with the fan? If so, are there instructions on how to fix/replace it. The deflector was off when I checked it out last night. I had it turned down to 1 and turned it back to 5 after replacing the deflector. Could not tell yet if this is the fix, but wanted to get a start on a fix if not. Also, I sas a post about the board being on recall. The recall leter mentions only 2005 and 2006 models. Has anyone seen a recall on earlier models? Mine went earlier this year. Also.... seems to be a dislike for GE appliances in general. Would the good people of this forum like to advise on the best?

The only brand of appliance I reccommend anymore, is Whirlpool. They still hold the best repair record in amost everything they build.

What type of freezing problem were you having? You can find a breakdown here, what part did you repair? http://www3.sears.com/ and yes I agree with Scott go Whirlpool

The carrots were in the middle drawer and were frozen. The water line and tank are frozen. I took the bins out last night and saw that there was a deflector that hangs off the screw for the water tank that was off. I guess that keeps the cold air from coming up top. There were also frozen soda and ice tea on the top shelf. I just got home and checked it. Seems at the moment to be ok, but I will have to monitor it over the next few days. Settings are 5 and 5. When I moved the setting from 2 to 5 last night, I heard the fan or something increasing in noise. Know anything about the board recall for earlier models?

you could have an air damper issue of a run away thermistor, keep an on on it. As far as a recall, I'm not sure.

You may end up having a board issue and if so use the letter jambatt posted for Ge. Although if your having a freezing issue in the fridge side I will go out on a limb here and tell ya you shouldn't have a fan issue (why would it be freezing no fan no air circulation). Sounds more like a damper and or thermistor problem like appl.tech said. Check this link...my post in the middle is about checking the damper....the model is different but the maddness should be the same. check these and post back.....Good Luck Also Whirlpool is the best in my opinion also

Ok. I have tried raising and lowering the temp. Still have a freezing problem. You show parts to repair the older model. How about parts for mine, GE Arctica PSS25MGNA I guess I would be looking for a damper. Could it just be stuck or would it need replacing? Thanks

From what everyone is saying, I think it might be a damper problem. Do you know where I can get info on reparing that part and where to buy the parts? This is a 2002 model GE Artica PSS25MGNA.

The Force is telling me you need a new damper assembly. Repair clinic calls it a1055112. You can confirm this by removing the bulb cover from the top of the fresh food compartment and removing the rear bulb. Loosen or remove the front light bulb so it doesn't blind you as you look in the square hole. You'll need to squint a little and you'll probably see the broken little damper door. Thanks. I took it apart over the weekend and saw that is in fact the part that you sent me. Only it looked different because your pic is upside down. So.. I took it apart and found that the damper was broken off. So I took it apart and used Loctite plastic super glue to put it back together last night. This morning the damper was open! Don't know how long it will last, but it beats $$. If I do need to replace it, can I just by the door or do you have to buy the entire assembly? Thanks for all your help.

OK..... I am a believer!!!! You guys are great. Although the part looks a little different (the air comes out the side instead of the front) it is working great. So I put it back together a few weeks ago and now the water and ice do not come out. I can hear the unit calling for it, but no H2O. I also put in a new improved filter. Could that be where the problem is?

Could be the water line is still frozen where the deflector fell off or water tank is frozen. Remove the front grille to access the water line at the blue connector under the freezer. Disconnect it and actuate the water dispenser. If you have water flow there but not at the dispenser check out this post on the subject.

OK. Finally back to trying to get this resolved. After fixing the broken part, I also installed a new filter. Supposed to be the replacement. I disconnected the line near the bottom and no water comes out. However, when I push up on the filter, water does come out. I operate the dispenser and a little water comes out the hose, but stops. When I operate the dispenser I hear the valve "calling" for water, but it never comes. I have had the freezer empty and down to 1 for two days now and still nothing. Wait a minute.... I am going to try to push the filter up an operate the dispenser at the same time. Yep, we got water flow.... Could it be a bad or wrong cartridge? Model MWF GE Smart Water Filtration GE Profile Arctica, Model, PSS25MGNA CC

I just looked at Repair Clinic.com to be sure I have the correct filter and it looks as though there is an adaptor that might solve the problem....I looked at the picture of the part and I am not so sure that is what is needed. Any Ideas? Last edited on Wed Jun 4th, 2008 12:22 am by bobandia |
