I have a Maytag atlantis Mav6200aww maybe five years old. My machine seems to have a similar problem with the tub not spinning as those others that have been posted. I tried all of the suggestions that i have read in the other forums. But my machine is still not spinning. My belt is fine My pump is pulling the water from the tank in the spin cycle The flywheel at the base of the tub is spinning The agitator is working in the wash cycle The tub still will not release in the spin cycle with the top of the washer open and trying to force the tub to spin Please help the wee grasshopper. Thanks

The lid must be down or the lid switch engaged for it to spin.....I would lean the machine back and manually turn the center drive pulley underneath one way is agitate (which we know works) the opposite way is spin....you should feel the pulley raise alittle and the tub start to spin.....

I had the entire top of the washing machine off while it was in spin cycle. The lid switch was engaged the entire time. The tub does not spin manually or automatticly. Any other suggestions?

Take a look at the pulley and cam by removing the dust cap. The pulley rides up on the cam and releases the brake. A common slow/no spin problem. Attachment: Pullley.GIF (Downloaded 102 times)

Notice in the breakdown hvacdrd posted...the 2 parts that usually go are the drive helix and the pulley (helix sets directly against the pulley) as you turn it by hand as stated before you should feel it push up slightly and the tub start to spin when right

Thanks for the diaiganosis, but unfortunatelly the pully is great and the plastic gear has all of its splines. Maytag is covering the transmission under warranty. Trans has extended 3 to ten year warranty. Soo for about 200 bucks they are going to replace it. I can live with that vs a new machine. Thanks

Before you pay for the tranny, put the unit into spin and start the unit. Have the top raised up (the top not the lid so the switch stays engaged), with the unit running, try and turn the inner tub by hand. If it turns freely by hand but not on it's own, the trans is bad. If it is still stuck solid, the brake is not released and you would have to check the trust bearing and make sure the motor is pivoting freely on the motor plate. On the thrust bearing kit pictured in the prior post, the 4th component down from the top can also get damaged and not allow the brake to release.
