Hi folks. I saw a link somewhere on this site (or a related one) about the problem of bad power. Well, I've got bad power, and I know what's causing it: the digital control panel on my Amana range. I know this because I can detect it--very loudly--on an AM radio. Get near the range and it goes crazy. Unplug the range and it stops completely, near the range and in the adjacent circuits. Centers around 1 MHz but extends up nearly to the top of the AM band. It's especially bad in adjacent circuits, including the one that feeds my (pretty expensive) A/V system in the next room. Doesn't help the picture on the television one bit.

So I'd like to filter it out at the source. The problem is that I can't find a filter that works with high current, 240 V appliances. That's understandable, since it's usually low-power devices that generate this crap.

Any suggestions? What should I do?

Jim

I know Whirlpool put out a service pointer about installing these on their ranges but do not know about a part number for the Amana (Maytag) ranges.  Perhaps someone here who has access to the Maytag bulletins will post this information for you.

Thanks, Pegi. FWIW, I contacted Amana and they were not helpful.

That ought to be a fairly generic part; I wonder if I could adapt the Whirlpool part to make it work on the Amana/Maytag.

COMPLAINTS: • Range interferes with microwave oven.

• Range operates on its own.

• F2 error codes: (F2 E0, F2 F1, F2 E3) appear regularly.

• Control indicates “Put probe in” when the probe is in use.

• When probe is inserted into cold food, the control completely

blanks out, and will not allow any further programming.

• Meat probe not working or working intermittently.

CAUSES: 1. The electronic control on the range is sensitive to electrical

and radio-emitted noise.

2. The electronic control does not recognize the meat

probe when it is inserted into cold food that is below 51F

(11C).

Pegi,

That's very interesting, and sounds like it's exactly the problem I'm having. Those kits, though, include the whole digital control module and cost between $200 and $300. Seems like all they would need would be some kind of passive low-pass filter.

I'll see if I can figure out if there's been anything similar--a recall or whatever it's called--for Amana/Maytag ranges.

Thanks so much for all your help.

Jim

You are welcome.  The  AC service update I was thinking of was for a microwave, and found this one also

i've been using part #9755444 which is just a suppressor that installs on to the terminal block, cheap and simple to installs- works in most cases.

It's a Whirlpool part# but really no need to know that, you can order it right here: CLICK HERE

Unfortunitely it looks like it might take a little while to get it from RepairClinic, it says "No Stk-Special order"

Thanks, Willie.

The reason I wanted a part # was to try to find a picture, to make sure I could install it on my range.

Sounds like, since this connects directly to the terminal block, it should fit just about anything. Am I right?

Thanks,
Jim

None of the sites I use had an actual picture of the suppressor but from the parts diagram it shows that it attaches to the terminal block and most all range terminal blocks are the same, so I would think you should have no problem with it.
