If you like you can remove the two wires to the drain solenoid, run the machine and see what it does.  I'm predicting it will do the same thing it is doing now.  When you finally put your eyes on that wrinkly drain flapper be sure and let us know.  Have a helper push the drain solenoid under the dishwasher while you look down the pump outlet from inside.

got one word for you:  WD40!

turns out the solenoid was stuck, not completely, but enough to deceive me.  With WD40 and working it for a while I'm now back in business.

Thanks for all your help!!!

Find the tech sheet under the unit on the right side and see what the time sequence is for these cycles.  Wonder if you could be in demo  mode or something??? Or it is stuck in rinse and hold??  Will do some looking arund about this demo mode.

Pegi, if you find anything on demo mode for a Kenmore Dishwasher 587.15079200 let me know, mine seems like it could be running in demo mode but I can't get it to stop.

Applehouse, this is a Frigidaire dishwasher with the Kenmore name on it, Sears makes nothing.  You will need to post exactly what it is doing and perhaps someone who knows the Frigidaire units, or does Sears warranty,  will have an idea about what your d/w might be doing.  Sears does not give anyone access to any service information unless they do warranty for Sears.  If you will find your tech sheet in this unit it might tell you what it is doing and how to correct it.
