I just got a new gearcase from Whirlpool (under warranty). Do I have to puncture that hole with a needle to make sure it is open? Thanks.

Thanks Guys, The pictures on here really helped.. The capacitor and clutch came in from this site very quick last week, and I ordered a remanufactures tranny off ebay, and it came April 15. I was excited, and couldn't wait to get the 1955 Thunderbird (washing machine) back together. I used the photos from this site for reference on several occassions. I had it back together and working, before my wife returned from mailing our checks and tax statement to the 'Tresury Department' along with a quick stop by the store for laundry detergent My tranny came with a clutch 'bowl' and a 5 (or 6) pad ring (better than the 3 pad ring that I ordered new), so I cleaned it with brake cleaner and sand paper, and used it (the pads were good) and used my old spring. Everything went together without a problem, except for liining up the coupler of the motor with that in the tranny as the tranny was already bolted on) and the only stupid mistake was forgetting to remove the 'duct tape' from that vent hole. After the 1st load of wash, I recalled I had left on the the tape and found that I could simply lift up the washing machine and reach under to remove the tape off the tranny. I also noticed that the motor was very warm to the touch while I was down there. I hope this is normal. I still had concern about that 'c-clip' under the top of the agitator that fits around the tranny's shaft I actually enjoyed watching it work. I washed, and spun 3 loads of wash last night (including the true test with 1 towel and 5 pairs of jeans), and 1 load early this morning...now the sofa is covered in clean t-shirts, towels, and comforters I am keeping the clutch, ring, and items I order for future repairs. I look forward to working on this machine in the future. Spent around $120 to repair (not including the $65 to have sears come out and tell me that it would cost nearly $600 for them to repair it Thanks..

$5 was long term investment If we were in the same area, I'd purchase a round of beers and lunch
