your neighbor is wrong it has nothing to do with the coupler. something is blocking the water discharge. check the pump for a sock or  something stuck in there.

When you say "check the pump for a sock or something", how do you do that?  I mean, do you have to take the pump apart, take off a hose, etc.???

Thanks, because I have the same problem.  And with a little guidance, I think I'll be able to do it myself.

You should also take a look at the drain hose on the back of the washer to make sure it is not kinked anyplace. Like were it connects to the washer or were it goes into the drain/stand pipe.
