This is a magnificent public service, BTW. My model number is GE GSH25JFRFBB. My ice bin auger motor is not turning or making any sound when I remove the ice bin, tape down the door light switch, and push the ice dispensing paddle in the door. Is there a fuse somewhere I can replace, or is the motor (or, ulp, motherboard) just hosed? I can turn the metal fork on the motor by hand, so it is not frozen up. This is a fairly new fridge, a year or so old.

You need to pull the motor assembly out and check it for continuity through the windings and make sure you have 120 volts too it (or whatever voltage its supposed to have to it, most are 120 volt motors). It might be a loose connection, could be a bad switch in the door, a bad board, or a bad connection at the hinge connector.

Thanks. I took the motor assembly out and checked for continuity -- it was OK. Also the solenoid that I guess turns it off when the ice bin isn't in there had continuity. So then I hooked the motor up directly to 120 VAC and it turned. I guess this means my problem is upstream of the motor assembly. Any ideas on what to do next?

I would look for a broken wire where they go thru the door hinge area...

I tried tracking the wire and verified the switch was working, but couldn't do anything more. So I called the repairman. I've got him at my house right now. He thinks it's a problem with the mainboard, but can't be sure without a wiring diagram, which is nowhere on the fridge. Meanwhile, I found the recall letter for GE Refrigerators, and my fridge is on the list. So I guess I'll be contacting GE to do the repair -- the guy I called can't do the recall repair. Bottom line is: it appears that "ice bin auger motor not working" can be caused by a mainboard failure on this fridge. I guess I'll end up paying for a service call but at least the problem with get fixed -- thanks to Samarai Appliance Repair Man. -- Jon Webb

These parts are limited to the following: -Evaporator Fan failure, only if accompanied by a Main Board failure -Dispenser Board failure, only if accompanied by a Main Board failure

Where can I find the complete recall? I may have a problem that it covers. I have an IM6 I/M that will not dispense ice. When the dispense lever is pushed, the convience light dims and nothing happens. However, if I disconnrct the solenoid for the ice chute door and open the door manually, the ice dispenses normally. Is that a PCB fault or the Solenoid?

The first appliance repair guy said that he noticed my solenoid wasn't getting the right voltage. -- J

I went to that site and tried to determine if my model was listed, but no luck. I sent an email to Garbage Etc to see if my model was on the list. Let's see what happens.

Just an update FYI, I had GE Service come out and the tech told me that this is a very common problem and he replaced the motherboard @ no charge in about 15 minutes. When I called GE they denied any problems and told me I would have to pay for the service call. Director
