$140 later for Miele service to come out, problem found and solved. The air gap on the dishwasher was somewhat clogged, which he showed me when we shone a light down on the air gap. Not enough to prevent draining, removing the cap and running the dishwasher would show water coming out the air gap top, but there was enough gunk to slow down the drainage and set the intake alarm. Bypassing the air gap resolved the issue.
There is a means to get the error code, but the number of keypresses to get it was too many for me to recall. Ideally, someone in the know can post this for future reference.
