You are getting the hall and ball sensors confused. To my 6 years of LG ASC knowledge All models have a hall sensor in the stator. Earlier models had a ball sensor mounted to the cabinet. The drum hits the ball sensor as it spins. If the ball sensor gets hit to hard or far it lets the pcb know the load is out of balance. The motor then stops and reverses acouple of times and tries to spin again until the load is in balance.
