Probably noise on the power line (voltage surges, swells, transients, and spikes). This plays hell with the microcomputer in your washer. Most manufacturers have chosen to ignore Samurai's 3rd Law of Appliance Repair, "Electronics and wet appliances do not mix." So, we must learn to compensate for their ignorant hubris. Just like your home computer should be plugged into a surge suppressor/noise filter, the computer in your washer is subject to the same pitfalls and requires the same protection. $50 will get you a excellent surge and noise suppression.
