 On the Electric Whirlpool dryers the thermo-fuse on the vent housing cuts power to the drive motor, the dryer would be dead.  The thermo-fuse cuts out the heat circut <only> on the <gas> dryers, so the motor can run and exhaust any possible fumes if something happens to the gas valve.   Sounds like you have not worked on as many of these as I have????
