 Well, Pegi, you were absolutely right!

I pulled the element, and a section of one of the coils had virtually welded itself to the bracket.  Thus, the short you so quickly diagnosed.

I replaced the element, and am back in business.  Problem solved.

I can't thank you enough for the quick response and the accurate diagnosis.

You rule!!!!
