Well, if this machine turns out to have interesting problems, the Fisher & Paykel motor has been discovered to be useful in a few other applications:

I'm kinda wondering where I could get my hands on a couple of old (and hopefully inexpensive) Calypso motors... they look like they'd make good robot drive motors and/or generators if suitably rewired!
