 Thank you to everyone for the advice.  I wish I'd have found this forum before I bought a Maytag dishwasher (or before replacing the handle the first time - 4 months ago :X).  Never figured with Maytag's reputation for quality that the most used component (handle latch) would be flimsy plastic.

If anyone finds a way to express dissatisfaction with Maytag on this point, please post a reply.  I'm about to order a replacement latch handle (probably 2 or 3 of them to be safe) and really am disappointed in Maytag.

The forum here is great though.  At least it helps to know others are feeling the same pain.
