I can't give you specific test results, but I have found with my new front-loader (Kenmore - it cost $600) that the clothes are significantly drier when they come out of the washer, and take a lot less time to dry. (I often needed to run my dryer through 2 cycles to get some big loads completely dry, but no longer.) The only problem with a front loader is if you have it on an upper floor, it will tend to shake the house when it spins.
