 Thanks again.  Your responses are very enlightening.

One last question:  Is the new style of Maytag front load washer (the ones with the see through door) designed better than the 5500 style? 

I am getting rid of my MAH3000 due to constant mold problems.  I received one of those settlement certificates toward the purchase of a new machine, but I want to buy wisely (as I though I had done last time when I spent $1100 for a washer).

Any final guidance on which Maytag washer to buy is greatly appreciated.
