I was given a washer and dryer from a friend that had bought a new FL set.  The washer, Maytab LAT9416AAE, had a very small, water leak.  It looked like the tub seal.  So I ordered a new seal and tub bearing kit.   The old seal was coming apart when I took it off the tub.  The tub bearing slipped right off the shaft.

I turned over the bottom of the basket and it looks like it has a lot of built up gunk.  I took a picture of the bottom of the basket.  Is it suppose to be clean, down to the metal tub?

Second question, when I pushed the old rubber bushing part of the tub bearing kit out of the tub, I didn't notice which way it was installed, the grooved part of the rubber bushing up or down?

I put the grooves up, see picture below.

I then put the tub in, bolted it to the three support arms, hooked up the drain hose to the tub.   Slipped the seal on the tub, all the way down and the lip.  Then hand tightened the top piece, then tighted it with the spanner wrench about an 1/8 of a turn.  Then I put the allen head bolt in the top piece.  I then put water in the tub to check for leaks.  As the water got to the top in side piece, just below the top rubber seal on the transmission shaft water started coming out of the grooves and also out of the brass piece area.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Jimmy
