 Even if the tranny is covered under warranty, I hate the idea of buying tool just to fix the dang thing.  I'm sick of dealing with the stupid thing and laundry is piling up.

I am very intriqued with your mention of the Whirlpool Direct Drives...are they new?  My previous machine was a Whirlpool and that sucker was a real work horse.  It was 15 years old and I left it behind when I sold the last house.

Where's the best place to shop for Whirlpool?  We have local brick and morter Home Depot and Lowes, but I have no problem buying elsewhere if I save $$$.
