Timer does rotate very slowly, it's imperceptible. How's the condensate drain? Try pouring some water down the condensate drain to see how fast it drains. I wondering if the condensate is handing around too long and getting sucked up by the evap fan after defrost. If that looks good, replace the defrost timer and defrost tstat.
