My thinking with shutting off the water was not so much to eliminate the possibility of water leaking from the tubing, but rather to eliminate the possibility that air from evaporate or fan is blowing across the water in the icemaker tray and splattering all over the inside of the freezer. It's still worth shutting the water off the ice maker for a few days just to see if the problem goes away.
