 In post 3 I mentioned that I had a water leak in the back of the unit where the water goes into a control valve on the ref.

Very "hard" water in SoCAL 

If shutting off the water stops the buildup, then I think I need to replace the water tubing that goes up to the ice maker.

That would seem a logical diagnosis, if the test proves true. Do you agree? I know I'm jumping ahead a bit, not having done the test yet.

But I did have that previous leak in the back with the water tube.
