May just need a new thrust bearing. If you turn the pulley CCWbyou should see the brake rise about 1/4" as long as the brake isn't stuck. You know the brake isn't stuck because you moved the drum. Either the thrust bearing is shot ot the tranny. Also, how many washers are under the C clip?
