If your willing to do the work you can probably get 8 or so more years out of it. The failure your having now is one of the most labor intensive repairs on this machine. That's why most technicians hate them. I would recommend either replacing the belt and or having one on hand if you decide to go forward with the repair. It's a common thing to wear out over time and easy to install (worth having on hand so you don't have to wait days on a replacement).
