Just becuz you have a "flattop" not a "roundtop" thermistor does not rule out the possiblity the sucker is gimpy...not a proponent of throwing parts at an issue, but i would replace that thermistor if I had gone to the trouble of removing the back panel on this POS- to cheap not to.
in my experience , 90% of the time this issue is traced back to an out-of-range thermistor
