I've only seen one bad so far, and it was rounded out so i had no trouble taking it off. I would think after some use the barbs on the metal insert will be worn down making it manageable to remove.
You say you had one of the new metal insert couplers round out the metal insert???
I thought that was the purpose of the metal insert, so you didn't have the rounding out the mounting hole problem.
With as much force as it takes to install them I find it hard to believe we would be seeing them round out like the old plastic ones did.
