Hi all, I just bought a used freezer and refrigerator (ca. 2002-2003) to replace the ca. 1985 ones I had that were energy hogs. I am curious as to whether the freezer will be much better than the one it replaced, though. The new one is a Kenmore 253.21711103 and the old one is a Monkey Ward's 4684. The appear to be identical for the most part (made by Whirlpool I presume) except the newer one is built a bit chinsier in the shelf supports, lacking a plastic cover for the capillary tube and evaporator tubes between the evaporator/shelves, flimsy outer cabinet, etc. and the compressor is different. But mostly they are the same (manual defrost, evaporator is the shelves type). Can I expect much better efficiency from the new one than the old? The refrigerator is probably much more efficient because the one I replaced ran a pretty heavy duty cycle and seemed to defrost much more than required with the mechanical clock. But it might be a little hard to tell since I did them both at the same time. Thank you Birken
