Well Willie,

Unfortunately, installing the new longer ferrule has not eliminated the water collecting at the bottom of the refrigerator.  I made sure the ferrule was seated as far as it would go.  Since I don't have any permagum, I can't put a bead between the drain and the air diffuser access.  I wonder if using plumbers putty would work.  Although I've never been able to determine if the drain hose was plugged (I poured hot water early on and never heard gurgling sound or had water back up - which made me assume the drain hose was not plugged).

Don't know what else to try next.  Don't want to buy a $15 box of permagum to use only a small bead and then hope that this will indeed resolve the problem.
