I finally took off the back panel of my Kenmore freezer. I saw two holes. One is the freezer drain below the evaporator. The other is a hole between the freezer and the fridge (to let freezer air go down to the refrigerator side).  I could not see the bottom of the drain because the evaporator was above it and I could not move it out of the way.  I tried to use a small mirror to see the bottom but still couldn't.

I heated water in my coffee maker (without the coffee grounds). I poured 2 cups of hot water (from a plastic plant watering can with a long thin spout) and then another 4 cups.  I did not hear the tell tale gurgle of the drain opening up.

I stuck a long zip tie in the drain to see how far down it went. It only went down approx. 4 inches.  I don't know if that is the ice block or just a 90 degree bend on the drain.  Since the six cups of hot water (plus some warm water from the sink earlier) did not back up, I assume the drain is clear (but can't be sure).

Is there anything else I can do to insure that the Freezer drain is clear?
