We have owned the Frigidaire front loading 3.1 cu. ft. washer for about 4 months. Most of our clothes and towels have a fowl sour smell to them and won't seem to come out. We have checked the drain spout level and it is correct. We have tried bleach, vinegar, hot, cold, oxyclean, era only, and no soap.....the result is the same (water temp does not make a difference either). We noticed this problem about two weeks after purchasing the machine. Any suggestions or ideas?

We used Era for the last 6 years with our old Maytag and never had this problem. Thanks for the input, we will try some other brands and I will post our results. Thanks. Eric

thank you! I was having the same problem. I did notice recently that my Downey fabric softener dispenser ball was coated with leftover slime from months of use, I'm pretty sure the washer workings must be in similar shape. Sometimes we just don't see the easy solutions! It doesn't help that my laundry area is almost always dark unless I turn the light on.

Lint disposal
Most washing machines collect lint during the wash cycle and send it down the drain during the drain cycle.

If your machine is a Maytag, though, it may be different. Most Maytag washing machines collect lint in the center tube of the agitator. You need to lift out that tube and clean it periodically. Other machines have a lint filter near the top of the tub, which you need to slide out, clean off, and reinsert.

My lint filter was as filthy as....a lint filter that hasn't been cleaned in many, many years. And yes, mine was a Maytag. You should have seen my face when I realized that middle column that I thought was completely attached to the wash fins came off!
I also rinsed the machine with Cascade and bleach, I really hope no more stinky clothes!

My wife and I found that there are several things that help. Try Vinegar, Lemon juice, or baking soda. We have used several products but have found vinegar to work yhe best.

Adjust the amounts required 1cup vinegar to rewash; ad 1cup in rinse cycle if really bad. Can substitute lemon juice consentrate,or suddsy amonia.

Try 1/3 cup directly into the dryer with the wet clothes, this will not help future wash loads but will fix a bad load when forgotten over night.
