| I have a 2003-Whirlpool washing machine Model No. LSQ9010LW0. There is L-shaped crack, approx. 3", on the bottom of the plastic outer tub. Before I dimantle any further wanted your advice on a possible fix - other then replacing outer tub. What do you think about using a heavy duty epoxy/sealant to patch the crack? Please advise.... Thank you.

| You can try, but that is sure a lot of weight when full of water and clothes...

| These have a 10-year parts-only warranty on the tub, might be worth calling Whirlpool.

You can try using a good epoxy. I would patch it from both sides. The tub should still be in warrenty, but you would have to pay the labor and service charges. If your handy, it would likely be cheaper to just buy a tub and fix it yourself.

| Find and cut out a piece of fairly heavy plastic something say oh....a plastic tupperware bowl or the like........next go to your local parts store and purchase part # 84101-----Permatex Perma Oxy (2 part 5 min epoxy clear) strength to 3400psi and temp resist to 180 degrees..wate3r resistant bonds dissimilar materials and fills cracks also designed for hard plastics. Coat the hole place plastic patch over it allow to cure alittle then seal around patch.then as nick said do the outside also this will make triple strength(outter, inner, top) should do the trick I've used different things over the years and have found this stuff to be the best.....as always after curing give it a good water test before going fore the gusto.......good luck.check back and let us know...

This is what happened to my almost 3 year old whirlpool... washer goes in back of garbage truck on monday to be crushed. The pressure cup thingy where it was fused/melted to the outer tub split and kind of flapped open. Tub spewed out it's entire contents on basement floor. We bought a new LG front loader, so far love it!

| They do usually have a 10 year outer tub warranty covering the part only. If you would like to swap it out yourself I have a video guide available at http://www.applianceassistant.com/tub_suspension.html The only specialty tool that you will need is a spanner wrench avalable at http://www.partwizard.net/product/20180/20010 or a local appliance parts store for 15-20 bucks. Hope the video helps you save some money!

Regarding the 10 year parts-only warranty...be aware! If you DO decide to swap this out yourself, you'll be voiding any future warranty on the part...
Whirlpool Corporation will not pay for:
...3. Damage resulting from accident, alteration, misuse, abuse, fire, flood, acts of God, improper installation, installation not in accordance with local electrical and plumbing codes, or use of products not approved by Whirlpool Corporation or Whirlpool Canada Inc...
...7. Repairs to parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to the appliance...
Basically, you get the part only once if you "do it yourself"; if an "authorized" does the repair, and it should fail again prior to the end of the 10 year warranty, the manufacturer will cover the cost of the part the next time around.
