I have a Maytag Performance dryer.  I cannot locate the model # as I don't think it is on the dryer.  I bought it used in 2004.  It is about 4 years old and the other day it just stopped heating up.  The only thing that i can tell you is that the coils in the top of the dryer do not heat up.     I don't know much about appliance repairs but I am willing to learn.  Can anybody tell me where to start?  I would very much appreciate it.

Open the door to see if the tag is on the dryer or the door area, first thing is to ohm out the heating element itself with the dryer unplugged..remove the wires first on the element and see if you get a reading with the meter set on 1K.
