I have a GE DDE7500GALWH dryer.  I don't know how old it is (bought the house 5 years ago and it squeeked then).  It has worked fine (but noisy) until now.  When I push the start button all I get is a hum.  I can turn the drum with my hand (with effort). I assume the door switch is OK because when I push it in I can get the hum, but when I don't push it in there is silence. Opened the top and took the front off.  Belt looks OK to me. What do I do now? I can't figure out how to take the drum out, nor the bottom panel on the front. Thanks for your help! Peggy

Thanks for the link.  I'm trying to remove the Drum center bearing clip.  I took of a (hollow) nut that was holding an "s" shaped metal strip.  Is that the bearing clip?  I don't see anything else to take off back there.  In the back now I have a rectangular metal plate with the sharp ends of 4 screws sticking out.  There is also a protrusion in the middle, but it doesn't look like it comes off.  How hard is it to get the drum out (do you need to use force?). Thanks for your patience with me!

OK.  Got the drum out. The area between the motor and the metal plate that supports the pulley is full of lint.  So this means the bearings are gone?  Does that mean I need to replace the motor?  Is this a reasonable thing to do?  (Obviously, I don't have a lot of experience with appliance repair, but I am having a lot of fun...) What is a "blower impeller", and how do I check it? Thanks so much for your help! Peggy

Peggy Lurking at the Threshold   Joined:  Location:    Posts:  Flavorite Brew:  Status:  Offline	So if the ends of the motor have a lot of lint, does that mean I need a new motor?  My appliance repair guy is no longer repairing appliances (makes me very sad), is this something I could do myself? Do I still need to check the blower impeller?  What is that? This site is wonderful!  Thanks for your help.
