I have the above referenced washer/dryer. Top loading. Out of the blue, the spin cycle has started making a big banging racket. It looks like the tub is out of alignment -- and I can't get it back to its regular position manually. I think this is a suspension problem. Is this something I can fix myself, or is this a complicated job and am I better off just paying someone in to fix it. Also, approximately how much would it cost to fix? Thanks for any advice on this.

There are 3 suspension struts on your machine. They kinda look like a WWI genade. One or more of them has come apart and is causing the excess tub movement. It's just mechanic work to replace them, but it can be a real wrestling match getting them replaced. I would replace all three, and get 3 extra nuts for the tops. You may need the extra nuts if the threads in the base are messed up by the strut going bad. If you do it yourself you'll save a ton of money. Just expect it to be a hard job. Good luck, Nick

I've never seen one of the actual suspension gernades go bad, but have seen many times when the actual tub support-superstructure assembly actually breaks the metal out of the support around the nuts. To repair you would have to replace the complete tub support assembly or have someone who is really good with welding to repair the old one. I believe the new tub support is going to be around $100-$150 if that is the problem.

I've had many with the genades bad, mostly in the last couple years. I think they have cheapened that part up , they didn't used to break. I also have seen the tub support break. Either job is a lot of work. Usually guys order the parts and schedule it for their day off. Nick

Hello Friends- I have a whirlpool LTE5243DQ3 with the very same problem and your wisdom has convinced me to call a professional. I actually came onto this board because the gross rocking and shaking caused by the unbalance tub resulted in a large jug of detergent flying off the top of the stacked dryer where it was stored, ricocheting off the laundry closet door and knocking loose the control panel. My control panel is hanging by a wire, so I shut off the breaker to prevent an electrical fire, but could not figure out how to get the panel back on. By the way, can anyone tell me how to get the control panel back on? For now, duct tape is the answer. But the root problem is the lack of balance. Anyway, thanks for saving me some frustration.
