A couple tips...

1) Soak the couplings in hot water for a few minutes before you install them. You will greatly reduce the chance of developing cracks. They keep them in water at the factory when they build the machines.

2) Make a installation tool out of a dowel rod. Get one just slightly smaller than the diameter inside the pins on the coupler halfs. Make it about 8" long, and put a few wraps of electrical tape on one end to bring it out to the pins on the coupler. Now you have a tool that will hold the coupling strait, seat the coupling flush, and is long enough to make installing the one on the gearcase much eaisier. Plus, it's handy to have a non-maring drift pin in the tool bag.
