A no-spin condition on this washer, the top-loading direct drive washer built by Whirlpool (with a Kenmore name stuck on it, in your case) is almost always a sure sign of a bad lid switch. As far as repairs go, they don't get much easier than this one-- it rates a mere single mug on the SUDs-o-meter. Got illustrated instructions fer ya ratcheer.

I had the same symptoms. The clutch was spinning after I replaced the motor coupler. However, I heard a squeal like a clutch. I smelled something overheating too. As a last resort, I reached inside the tub and used both of my hands to turn the tub. (One hand 180 degrees out from the other and pressed against the inside of the tub. I could turn the tub, but I heard a plastic ratcheting sound. I top off the top of the tub shield and saw that there was a chapstick container lodged between the outside of the tub and the inside of the water jacket. My wife reached in with her skinny hands and arms, but was unable to grab the chapstick container. In fact, it went to the bottom of the tub and everything turns fine now. As long as it doesn't get into somewhere it shouldn't be, I will be fine. Is there a drain that it can plug up? I really don't want to have to take the tub out. It looks like a big job. Any thoughts about whether I should go for the big job?
