Frigidaire FL Washer Model: LTF530DS1 Serial: XC54405972 Symptom: Rattle / Helicopter Sound at Medium & High Speed Spin. This washer is 5 years old & in pristine condition. Replaced rear bearing/half shell. Replaced rear pulley. Examined Laundry Basket--it is in absolutely perfect condition. Bolts are *TIGHT* for the TRUNNION. All functions are normal and whisper quiet until the spin cycle is at medium speed. At which point the noise occurs... rattle-rattle-rattle-rattle---rattle-rattle-rattle-rattle... At high speed rpm---it sounds more like a helicopter. NOT excessively loud--but not normal for this washer either. Any ideas?

I'll pass on that Regus. Just wondering if any techs are aware of an obscure problem with the 3.1 cu ft Frigidaire built washers. This may be a known problem for a short production-run of these washers (2005-2006). I have an identical Frigidaire built in 2006--also in pristine condition that makes the same sound. Model: LTF530FS0 Serial: XC64504332 I was given 12 of these washers. The oldest is 1997 & newest is 2006. Some are Kenmore labeled--others are Frigidaire. I'm cannibalizing the less-than-nicer ones to salvage the others. So far three needed rear tub bearings & one needed a drain motor. These two (LTF530) have me stumped. I've changed many bearing assys & s/s tubs. The only logical explanation seems to be an out-of-round laundry basket--just not sure yet... Last edited on Mon Nov 15th, 2010 02:51 am by john63 |

Hello, John, my rattled friend. In my past experience as a soldier in the elite Appliance Repair Corps of the Mujahideen, we found that the drum vanes can produce many strange noises. In particular cases, I have seen loose drum vanes or coins or other debris caught inside of them. An out of round basket, as you mentioned, can also cause the drum vanes to produce various sounds.

cracked or loose counterbalance weight gives rattles make sure the 2 bottom front bolts dont have the extra shipping bolt nut/washer loosely attached(sometimes the delivery guys partially tighten these back on) are you testing without clothes? if so make sure no water is entering the machine during spin, the water splashing off the vanes during a spin makes a heck of a racket if used on a week floor for many years the pop rivets and spot welds in the cabinet come loose and cause noises or, if you installed a used rear shell you might have 2 bad bearings in a row, also the cast aluminum on the spider can crack and not be noticable, i usually smack these with a hammer before trying to reuse one to make sure it has no hidden cracks

Thank you guys. All are negative *except* for possible hairline cracks in the SPIDER ARM ASSY. May also be an out-of-round basket. The noise almost has an oil-canning "quality" to it. I'll have to tear into it again to verify---3rd time <sigh>.
