The part I figured out: 3 or 4 months ago, our clothes washer, a Maytag LAT9706AAE, started smelling like burning rubber during the spin cycle, then eventually stopped spinning entirely (agitates fine, fills/drains fine). Due largely to an excellent thread on this board (http://applianceguru.com/forum2/25233.html) I was able to figure out that the belt needed replacing. The washer is about 10 years old and in otherwise very good shape. So I bought a new Maytag belt (AU Maytag 6 2111250) and lo, all was good. For the past couple of months the washer has worked as it's supposed to. The part I can't figure out: Then, a week or two ago, the same symptoms started again: smell of burning rubber during spin, now completely fails to spin at all. I can spin the tub by hand, and it turns smoothly and with what feels like the appropriate effort for a cement-weighted tub. If I briefly pull the motor back on it's spring-loaded track to put more tension in the belt while it's trying to spin, it DOES make a sound like a bad bearing (a grinding moan or low squeak) ... but the tub won't spin. Instead, the motor slows down, so I release it since I don't want to burn out the motor. Pump and pump belt work fine. Fills and drains fine. I can't see anything obvious. My best guess is a bad bearing, but I'm hoping perhaps it's something similar? I would be grateful for any ideas/suggestions you can give. I have NO background or training in appliance repair, or even mechanics, for that matter. But I read a lot and am willing to try almost anything. Thanks in advance, Duncan Granger Round Rock, TX

Either you have a bad bearing, transmission, or something stuck between the tubs. Someone will post you some tear down instructions.
