Our 2 year old Kenmore 600 washer started acting up recently. The wife noticed the clothes were still soaking wet and the tub did not appear to be spinning. After some research I tested the lid switch, and the water level switch which both seemed to check out ok. I ran the washer without any clothes and it completed the cycle normally. We loaded it up with clothes and started a new cycle. When I checked back on it 30 minutes later it was completely dead, full of water, and we could smell an overheated electronics smell. There was no response at all from the control panel as if the machine was unplugged. I decided to let it cool off and try again in the morning. Now the machine makes a humming sound and the garage lights dim when trying to turn it on, but it doesn't even fill with water any more. Is it toast?

Sounds like you have a bad motor, going to have to tear the machine down for some further testing. Someone will post some tear down instructions for ya.
