My Kenmore Dryer is 9 years old. Just last night when I started a load of laundry it was working but was making a squeaking noise while running. This morning I went to start the dryer and it sounded like the power was on with a humm and then it clicked off. I can turn the drum clockwise with effort and I can not turn it counter clockwise at all. Thanks, Jess

Remove the top and front panel to check if the belt is in the motor pulley, not caught on the motor shaft....if O.K. there removr the drum and belt and check that the motor will rotate freely, does not drag.......... Is there a build-up of lint/fuzz near the motor bearings???

The belt looked ok. The whole inside was coated with lint. I did the whole cleaning out the dryer and dryer duct just 9 months ago, but I never took the front off to clean in the inside. Never thought to. So I tried to rotate the motor and it doesn't move very easily. It is very stiff to move. Bad motor?

remove the belt from the motor and try Turning it by hand, this will tell you if the motor is binding, or the drum

Sorry, I didn't write my last response very clear as I was in a rush to get out the door. I meant that the motor was hard to turn with the tub and belt off. I can't turn it by hand on the end that has the nut (where the belt would be in contact). I can turn it from the other side by pushing the fan type thing , but it is still very stiff. Thanks again, Jess

when you say you turn the "fan type thing" is this from the back with the blower housing removed? if not remove the back from the dryer, on the left you will see the blower housing running up the left side, remove this( top must be lifted(2 screws under the lint filter have to be removed)) remove this housing before ordering a motor incase its packed with lint or a foreign object then try to turn the blower fan by hand if it is still hard to turn you will have to remove the motor now sometimes you can remove the motor, clean it and then oil both ends of the motor shaft with turbine oil till it turns free and reinstall, if it turns once oiled in saying this, i have oiled a motor and had it last a week, i have another friend i did this for and the motor has run for over 5 years so if your time is worth more than your money it is worth a try
