HELP! my whirlpool LGR7646EQ2 gas dryer will only go into the low heat range. It's about 11 years old and has always been used on high until my daughter (I love that kid) switched it to low and now that's all it will work in. Could it be the heat selector switch on the front panel?

Could it be the heat selector switch on the front panel? are you talking about the main "Timer-Dial temperature settings" have you checked the heat in a Timed (non-automatic) Cycle ? Dryer Vent Vent should be rigid metal. Short lengths of flexible metal may be OK, if not crimped when moving the Dryer into place. NO plastic NO PVC NO screws Foil Duct Tape is OK. With an empty load, Timed Dry, High Heat, the vent temperature should cycle somewhere between 135F and 160F Check / clean the Dryer Vent Disconnect the Dryer Vent and check for good air-flow there and where it exits the house. Check the Vent air temperature at the back of the Dryer. If you have a Harbor Freight Store near you, click on picture $ 4.99 sometimes on sale for $ 2.99

This is in the timed dry cycle and I am referring to the temperature selection switch where I can select low, medium or high heat. Venting is good and I tested it with the vent completely disconnected. I do get a low flame and very little heat but not enough to heat the drum. I have cleaned the gas duct and ignighter with no change to the situation.

the Temperature Selector Switch changes the amount of "added heat" that "fools" the Operating Thermostat to open earlier, etc ... That may be not working correctly, OR another common problem: intermittent Gas Valve Coils not opening when warm .. When it's not heating correctly, view the Ignitor to see if it's glowing, but the Gas Valve isn't opening.. LGR7646EQ2 Wiring Sheets Ignitor # 65

The igniter works fine. I get a flame, just not enough of one. I have replaced the solenoids and had no change. I'm thinking about replacing the selector switch. By the time I get this thing going I expect most of the inner workings will be new.

I have had a similar problem. it sounds like an air flow problem in the venting inside the machine. pull the duct where the lint screen is and make sure there is no obstructions. I have had these so full of lint that it would reduce the air flow and the flame would come on and go off in 5 sec. good luck

Ok, you guys might not believe this but I accidentally found my problem. I got frustrated and began ripping the machine apart.  I got to the gas valve and opened it up to find a family of spiders living there.  Their little ball of silk was blocking the gas flow.  I cleared the valve of the interlopers and we are drying clothes again!  Thanks for all of your help!
